![]() Run the built-in Windows programs that check the disk and file structure for any errors, and correct any that show up. ![]() First, start by doing some diagnostics on the drive in question. There are a couple of things that can be tried. Kim is wondering how to best handle this situation. Now everyone enjoys the annoyance of every second opening of Word being greeted with the auto recovery pane seeking some user action for the same file. This file recovery request has now infiltrated its way other users on the LAN. As a result Word, on every second occasion, requests some action with the 'auto recovered' (now deleted) file. The user took no action to recover the file and, instead, physically deleted it. Ever since that time Word has repeatedly requested some attention to permanently recover the file. Something to consider.Kim recounts an experience where Word 2003 saved a file automatically during a time when the workstation shut down abnormally. Autosaves could be available for autorecovery as it is now. Since autosave info is now available after a crash now there seems to be no reason why these autosaves could not be written to disk. ![]() It would increase options and no work that is wanted to be saved would ever be lost except for that done since the last autosave. As an example, someone could revert to (say) what had been done as of 15 minutes ago and continue from there. Since autosave would be in a separate directory at least many hours of work would be available and the user could revert to any of the autosaves. ![]() Of course, at any time (as it can be done now), if you don't like what you have done you can easily make any changes and then manually save it again.Īs it stands now, it is too easy to lose a lot of work if something happens accidentally as it did for me. The second would be the autosave backups which would be saved in a separate directory. One would be the one where it is done manually as it is now. ![]()
